Art and creativity to light up southern Adelaide Riverbank
The interactive installation will light up a 700m stretch of the southern Adelaide Riverbank between Morphett Street and King William Road and will be designed to engage passers-by by both day and night.
The installation will feature a series of geometric shapes inspired by the surrounding architecture, which can be programmed to create light shows or be activated by movement sensors. Some of the shapes will also provide backdrops for performing artists and audience seating.
South Australian landscaping and civil engineering firm Outside Ideas and international design and engineering consultants Cundall have been selected as the preferred proponents for the $596,000 project. Cundall will lead the design phase while Outside Ideas will deliver the civil and landscaping construction. Outside Ideas will take primary responsibility for the construction phase, which will include manufacturing the features in accordance with Cundall’s detailed design.
Adelaide-based firm Gridlock Electrical has also been approved to work on the installation.
Construction is expected to start mid-year and be completed later this year.
The installation will complement other lighting investments along the Adelaide Riverbank, including the up-lighting of significant trees on the northern bank of the Torrens which was switched on in December 2016.
These lights can be programmed to change colours for significant events and game day celebrations at Adelaide Oval adding to the vibrancy of Adelaide Riverbank as an engaging destination.
