Yidaki: Didjeridu and the Sound of Australia

South Australian Museum

The didjeridu is the iconic sound of Australia. From a stringy bark forest in Arnhem Land, to the concert halls of Europe, the sound of yidaki (didjeridu) speaks of the landscapes and cultures of Australia and its First People. Yet the instrument’s cultural foundations, contemporary meanings and unique musical qualities are poorly understood.

Photography Lindsay Poland from ‘Camera Perfect’ takes you on a tour through the beautiful surroundings of Adelaide Zoo to share his secrets of perfect animal photography. Learn how to photograph through glass and how to make the wire disappear plus more techniques that will help to enhance your photography skills.

These one-day (6 hours, 10am – 5pm) courses will focus mainly on “hands on” photography.

Revolting Girls and Rotting Boys

This one hour activity  will explore the lives  of a few of  the ‘revolting girls’ who passed through the Destitute Asylum in the mid-1800s and the  ‘rotting boys’  who lived on the Hulk Fitzjames between 1880- 1891. Come in, dress up, line up, and fess up to your crimes. Have fun working though the choices that you made and your eventual  destination. Working through five different stations, explore what life was like for these children.
