Adelaide_Portal opens its doors for Adelaide Fringe to connect to the world in the heart of the newest pop-up venue
Adelaide_Portal at the former Royal Adelaide Hospital site will open its doors to showcase the colour, sounds and magic of Adelaide Fringe to the world stage, with Fringe on World Tour.
On Saturdays during the Adelaide Fringe, performers will step into Adelaide_Portal and connect live as if they were in the same space with people in Colorado and Brooklyn, Gaza in Israel and Erbil in Iraq, through the latest in immersive technology.
The Fringe performances including acapella singers, magicians and comedians will be broadcast through the portal to the other side of the world in real time.
These performances will spill out to the surrounding courtyard, where there will be children’s activities on offer with face painting, balloon twisters, bubble performers, live music, tasty food and beverage offerings from local tenants.
In addition to Adelaide_Portal, Renewal SA has created a new activation zone during Adelaide’s festival period in the former hospital emergency carpark. The first activation in this space is the new Lot 14 Pop-up which is a chance to showcase some of the best and local South Australian food offerings from East End Cellars, The Sparkke Change Beverage Company, Eros and Locapops.
Activations like these encourage people to get up close and personal with the former Royal Adelaide Hospital site, to reconnect and learn that the space is no longer a hospital.
This space will offer a range of different activities and activations curated either by Renewal SA or external operators, which provides a glimpse into the redevelopment’s vision while the site is transitioning into a significant culture attractor and innovative neighbourhood.
Hosting these activations is a part of Renewal SA’s plan to support Adelaide’s prominent East End and surrounding businesses by adding vibrancy and new economic development through attracting more people to the former Royal Adelaide Hospital site.
